PLAYSTATION VR!!!

So I haven't written a blog in I dunno how long, but I felt like today's experiences were great enough to warrant an update. This was my immediate reaction:

Holy cow! Finally got to try out PlayStation VR at GameStop and Best Buy today! I'm 100% sold! Incredible experience and thoroughly indescribable. You have to try it for yourself!

  So even though I said I couldn't describe it I'm still going to try just a bit. The reason people say it's hard to describe an experience with VR (virtual reality) is because THIS type of VR is extrasensory and utterly mind boggling (Which is a good thing)! The visor and earphones literally cut you off from the real world and immerse you so deeply into the virtual world, as the character, that it's quite difficult for one to "get their bearings." If the virtual world places you in the cockpit of a star ship the player literally feels the same sensations one would feel in an actual cockpit (minus a few G-forces maybe) flying around because the experience has managed to fool your brain into believing it's real. It's that good. 

 

I think I was surprised at how intuitive the controls were, in that you have the option of playing certain games with the regular dual shock controller or with the PlayStation Move motion controllers, which basically feel like extensions of your own hands once you've learned their functions. The learning curve is so nonexistent you'll feel comfortable performing actions in game in no time, so you can really just focus on enjoying the experience. The entire set-up also produces small vibrations within the visor and controllers, that occur when the user interacts with objects in the virtual worlds, which are so sensitive that they feel like you are actually making contact with those objects (as opposed to just feeling a vibration). Everything in the worlds reacts just as it would in the real world. It's still blowing me away hours later...  

I was able to demo The London Heist, PlayStation VR Worlds, EVE: Valkyrie, and Battlezone. Each world has it's own unique experiences and everything you can see within the visor can be seen on your television screen by other people in the room, so you can all share in the experience together; but I think the coolest sort of unforeseen factor may be that you can also just watch regular movies and shows within the visor on a virtual movie screen within a virtual movie theater... So imagine being able to go to the virtual movie theater within your visor within your home and watching movies in a virtual movie theater where your friends, who also own visors can come into that virtual movie theater and watch that movie on screen with you from the comfort of their own homes... 'Nuff said.

50 game titles will be available at the PlayStation VR's launch October 2016.

Tiger Sharks!!!

Reliving more pieces of my childhood with these pieces. Dunno if you guys remember the old TigerSharks cartoon (1987), but it was a short lived, yet somehow still memorable, creation of Rankin/Bass (The same people that brought us ThunderCats and SilverHawks).

Did these and a few others for  (a commission client Richard) as a throwback and reinterpretation of the characters a bit more "up to date" on the looks. In all I did about 14-15 characters but can't show them all here as some are OC (original characters) and others may be used to promote a new show! 'Twas cool to reference and re-watch some of the old show for research!Mako, Octavia, Dolph, Angel, Doc Walro, Bronc, and finally T-Ray.

Bobby Chiu is in charge over there and is a respected industry artist (which is why he's able to pull interviews with the artists he presents). The information you will hear in these interviews is invaluable if you take your career as an industry artist seriously.

I tend to watch or listen to these a lot while I'm actually working, and it's helped answer a lot of questions I've had about other creator techniques and how they got started in the industry.

Living the Game

My good friend and short film producer/director Matt Connolly and I produced a short film for a Reebok competition earlier this year. As the subject of the film, it was to encompass my love, passion, and fire for creativity in general, but specifically for my martial art Capoeira.

I could talk a lot about what it means to me and the talent of Matt as a visionary, but I'll let the film speak for itself. Cheers, and Happy 4th! (btw, we got 5th place out of 5 possible spots).

Anime Expo 2013

So, I will finally make it to Anime Expo this year! Every other year around this time since 2006 I've been in preparation for San Diego Comic Con, so I always miss Anime Expo...but NOT this year! Comic Con is not a must this year, so I'm going to the AX!

There's a lot I want to see there, including new anime titles, artwork (of course), meeting some of the artists behind some of my favorite series and films, games, toys, and last but not least, ridiculous cosplay, hah!

May see you guys there or may not, but I'm sure it will be a bit o' the ol' fun!

Wow! We made it!

This was my first post on the 'Udon: World of Warcraft Tribute,' but since then I've found out that my piece made it in the book!! Super stoked for this and it will be out in July 2013 exclusively at San Diego Comic Con!

So I just finished my "World of Warcraft - Tribute Book" piece minutes ago!! Of course I worked all the way up to the deadline date..but it took 2 months of "researching" WOW again in order to get my "reference" for the piece (such hard work). 

I really dig the design work in Warcraft and of Blizzard in general, so we shall see what they have to say (fingers crossed). Apologies, I cannot show you the piece or even a sneak peek, as Blizzard and Udon have said "NO!"

I respect the rules, so you'll have to wait, but the good news is, I will have more to post on Deviant Art that has nothing to do with that at all!!!

Dakstalkers Tribute - Udon Crew

Been quite a while since I posted anything... too much stuff to remember (I'm pretty bad about blogging).
Anyway, this is kind of old news now but the most recent thing that's happened, therefore here ya go!

So this was my submission for the Darkstalkers Tribute Book, but I didn't make it in unfortunately

I still want to congratulate all of the winners and can't wait to see the book! Thanks to the Udon Crew regardless for doing this. Looking forward to more in the future. I'll be at Comic Con this summer anyway with my own books and to pick up this one. So see you guys this summer!

Me Blog Spot!

Howdy Y'all,

So this will be the beginning of the end if you allow me to ramble on in blog format, but I suppose it has to begin somewhere. A lot of my other friends( esp fellow artists) have blogs now so I figured I'd join in the fun so I too can remember the thought process I was going through at any given time on projects on which I am working..and silly a$$ life.

I've been posting artwork on deviantart for the past year and it has proven to be well worth it in the way of gaining exposure and meeting other artists in the industry who I respect and admire. so this is sort of a way for me to actually see who's out there viewing my webpage and would like to comment directly to me about it.

This may be a bit premature (as I'm not quite famous yet..hah) but give it time ;)

The Dark Knight and other Comic Book Movies

So I saw the Dark Knight last night... Let alone being probably the greatest comic book movie I've EVER seen, it's likely one of the greatest movies period, I've ever seen. Here's a note to Hollywood... Thank you for shutting the fuck up, thinking you know what people want and what people will pay to see and will make a lot of money at the box office, and for finally listening to the original creators of these properties on how to put these films together for the masses. This movie was rated PG-13!!!! was gruesome and kept me in suspense pretty much the entire film; and actually had me worried about the characters, etc. Future directors, please take note of how this was accomplished (by not dumbing it down for kids, as kids are not stupid).

Iron Man also included in this "How to make a comic book film the right way" rant! Just do it the way it's supposed to be done! I realize that it maybe took creating a bunch of "not really quite there films" to arrive at this one, but here we are, and there it is Finally! I'm still actually a big fan of the first two Timmy B. Films, but then there were the rest... Halfway through the movie I'm thinking, Alicia Silverstone could NEVER have been in this and had it be the same Quality film. Not to say she doesn't have her place in movies..I guess, but it's definitely not in this franchise. Watchmen is also looking the part! Hollywood is finally listening, and it shows, and apparently pays, eh Hollywood? Go figure...
